Ivanka Riley & David Treadwell are a winning partnership at Southampton

It was a wild, wet and windy day and the organiser, Peter Friedmann, had to re-plan everything as two of the courts where flooded (yes they were indoors). It was commented that one or 2 players looked as if they were wearing swimming costumes.

Needless to say he did this very capably and we all did our best to do as we were requested.

There were four first rounds playing against three other couples and the winners of these were:

• Sally George & Peter Dunning
• Julie Metz & Martin Hooff
• Ivanka Riley & David Treadwell

Jan Combes and Alistair Heaphy reached the Consolation final along with Gill Martin and Tim Henley. In a tightly contested match, Jan and Alistair came out the winners – well done.

The Championship final pitted Penny Wyatt and Bob Gasston against Ivanka Riley and David Treadwell – congratulations to Ivanka and David on an exciting win.

A very social evening followed, with lots of laughter, very ably helped along by two non-players, Mike Lynch and Harri Gibbon
