Joan Forda

Death of Joan Forda. With great sadness we must report the death of Joan Forda. Joan was the widow of Peter Forda, one of the founding fellows of the 45 Club. Peter was the first Editor of the newsletter and Joan assisted him with that activity. Joan was a stalwart supporter of the Club always attending our major social events such as the Christmas lunches, the AGM and the associated suppers after the Queen’s tournament. Joan loved to travel with the Club to the overseas tournaments, of which Cervia was her favourite. She could always be found court-side giving support to whichever 45ers were on court at the time. Joan will be sadly missed and we mourn her absence. Peter Friedmann Chairman of the 45 Club Committee      See full story...

45Club at Milford Seniors Doubles April 24th – 28th.

Main Image
Peter Friedmann has supplied the following summary, results and pictures. The Milford Seniors Doubles tournament is one which always attracts many 45ers and is one in which we usually do pretty well. That was the case this year again – indeed, running an eye down the list of winners and runners-up there is a huge preponderance of 45ers. The tournament is structured so that each event is run on just a single day – 3 or 4 events taking place on each day and each event has a consolation event for 1st round losers – so everyone gets at least a couple of matches. This year we were blessed with dry weather but early in the week it was bitterly cold with a harsh Northerly wind blowing. There was some terrifically high standard tennis to keep the watching audience entertained. The tournament was beautifully organized by a team comprising our own (but lent to Milford) Jo White, Alan Gordon, Neil and Dee Flanagan, with Groundsman Chris Cabot and referee John Cliff – the 45 Club extends our congratulations and thanks to all those involved in running the tournament. Would you volunteer to be our Facebook administrator?

Main Image
We are looking for a 45Club volunteer with an interest in social media to maintain, update and promote our Facebook presence. There is a link to the 45Club Facebook page at the very bottom of every page on our website. Also, if you are using the website (and using an up to date operating system) you will probably have noticed Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Addthis share buttons. They allow visitors to our website to share content on any social sharing service. So ideally our Facebook administrator should also be interested in these other social media outlets as a way of connecting with and helping other 45Club members online. Facebook makes it easy for members to communicate one-on-one, and an active Facebook presence can only be beneficial to our club. In addition to the other admin roles (like editing, viewing, creating posts, and commenting) our administrator / moderator will have to decide what is permissible and what is not acceptable for a Facebook user to post on our page. If you might be interested in this top Facebook role, please let either Robert Jamieson (Hon.secretary) or Barry Sayers (website administrator) know, using the Contact Us page on the website. Thanks.      See full story...

Christmas Lunch at The Queen's Club

Main Image
A short report from Peter Friedmann. We had a really good Christmas lunch hosted by The Queen’s Club. Queen’s has refurbished much of the ground floor and catering areas and it has a feeling of luxurious opulence. As usual, the catering staff at Queen’s did a really good job and we had the sense of excellent quality to the food. Thirty two diners took part and there were many expressions of pleasure at the event. Our President David Tomlinson had sent some messages of acknowledgement and congratulations to the Club; these were read out by David Lloyd and Peter Friedmann. Our special thanks go to Merete for co-ordinating and organizing the event. A full report will appear in the next magazine.      See full story...
