A new Treasurer is urgently needed

Main Image
Your club is in urgent need of a new Treasurer. Our present Treasurer Judy Slaney will be standing down from the committee at the AGM in August 2016 . You do not have to be a qualified accountant for the task but someone who is good with figures would be sufficient. It is not an onerous task and a job description is available for those interested. A first step might be to contact Judy to discuss what the job entails or contact the Club Secretary. You can use the contact us link at the top of the page. Please come to the aid of your Club, we really do need your help.      See full story...

East Dorset mixed 19th May results

Main Image
David Lloyd reports 10 pairs, very good standard. Good to see Jane Manners back playing with a Korean member "Dennis" (actually Sunghun Choi or Choi Sunghun). The final was a 6-2 win for Steve Archer and Merie Sabey over Shane Horsell and Jo Ward, but the highlight was the semi where Steve and Merie beat Neil Abercrombie and Cleo Skilton on a tie break. Winners of the consolation, and pictured here, were Neil Crawford and Heather Halliday. Prizes were all from the RNLI charity shop and a special prize of yellow RNLI socks to the sock connoisseur Robin McDonagh. Thanks to Ian and Ed who run the clubhouse cafe who provided food all day and a very nice evening meal. Steve Archer's report will appear in the next magazine.      See full story...

Holiday thoughts from Enid and David Tomlinson

Main Image
" Years ago groups of 45 Club members travelled overseas to some quite unusual and exotic parts of the world and these trips typically included cultural visits to opera houses, etc. Then in 1999 a first tennis only holiday was arranged to St. Lucia, which proved a huge success, and was followed in subsequent years by mostly all inclusive holidays in Antigua, California, The Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, Lake Garda, Croatia and The Bahamas. More recently there have been successful visits to Club Med locations, which provide excellent food and very good coaching. please reply to the Secretary, Robert Jamieson (see 'Contact Us' at the top of the page). Organising a holiday is less onerous than it might at first seem. A venue has to be chosen (we have found that locations that offer warm weather, all inclusive resorts, tennis facilities and, if possible, access to golf, make for a good recipe) and the timing selected - typically late Autumn or Jan-Mar to offer a break from our winter. Once that is done a good travel agent will make all the arrangements for us. The organiser is then responsible for obtaining the deposits (but not holding the money in their own account) and keeping members informed and then eventually arranging the delivery of tickets. Overall it is really not that daunting and anyone who volunteers can be assured of guidance from an experienced hand. Suggestions for the future include Club Med locations in the Caribbean or Florida, but there are many other possibilities. Do make the effort to volunteer!"      See full story...
